Overview
Our summer neighborhood encourages campers to explore who they are and what they enjoy in a safe, welcoming community. Set in the woodlands of northern Michigan, Walden offers more than 50 activities and gives children and teens the freedom to create their own schedules. This means that campers daily cross paths with dozens of kids and counselors outside of their cabin group. The result is an intermingling of ages and genders that builds camp camaraderie and opens the door wider to new friendships. All of this, under an overarching ethos of kindness and acceptance, has kept Walden a top midwestern camp for 66 summers.

Liz and Scott, Directors since 2006
Scott and Liz take great pride in running a camp that fosters kindness, empathy and respect for differences. Liz spent her first 22 summers at Walden as camper and staff, and she and her husband took the reins of Walden from Liz's parents in 2006. Alongside a dedicated senior staff of educational professionals who return year after year, their commitment to providing a positive camper experience is perhaps the most vital aspect of Walden’s success.
